My name is Adrian, and I have over 30 years experience in the electronic repair industry.
I first became interested in radio at just 8 years old. I had assembled a simple AM radio with a crystal earpiece, on a spring-loaded project board, and after some time, finally got it to work. It seemed like magic to me, hearing the sounds coming out of that earpiece, and being able to choose what to listen too. My life long radio love affair was sealed!
My parents bought me a 'proper' radio at 10 years old, a 3 band transistor portable. That radio got a lot of use! I continued to learn about electronics and repaired my first item, a 70's integrated music system, while still only 10.
It was inevitable that I would end up working as an electronics engineer, repairing all manner of domestic appliances, from televisions to washing machines. The majority of my first 20 work years was in television and audio repairs.
Currently I work for the BBC here in the UK, as a senior technical operator. However, I have never lost my enthusiasm for repairing electronic items.
And so 'Radio Restoration' was born, to combine my love of radio with my love of repair. My mission is to keep alive the wonderful sets of yesteryear, both the early valve receivers, and the 'transistors' of my youth, for fellow radio lovers everywhere.
